The steep contours of the little village of Auzay cut through the surrounding plain, dominated by the beautiful grouping of the Church of Notre-Dame of the Nativity (11th century but largely rebuilt in the 14th and 15th Centuries) and the Château de la Cour (19th Century). Nestling in the heart of the village, between two slopes, the 19th Century wash house is very well preserved. Sheltered beneath its protective roof, washerwomen could gossip in comfort while doing their laundry.
The crystalline water which runs through it, still flows except during the summer.
Recent archaeological digs have confirmed the existence of a Neolithic settlement at the site of l'Eperon des Chateliers.
The discovery of graves and skeletons attests to this. Elsewhere, fragments of marked pottery found at the beginning of the20th Century, confirm the continuance of human settlement into Gallo/Roman times.
