DOIX

Map - satellite view
At the edge of the marshes, the village of Doix owes its development to the drainage work of the middle ages. At the entrance to Doix, the château built in 1656 by Etienne DAURAT, a parliamentary counsellor at the beginning of the drainage work, welcomes the visitor. There remains a good part of this dwelling, of which the central pavilion and the turret have been recently reconstructed as well as a beautiful communal building of the same age which borders the entrance court.

The church, rebuilt in 1845 in the 'Empire' style, contrasts with the Norman churches round about. The murals which overhang the chancel represents the three stages of the life of St Peter. The painted, panelled ceiling dates from 1889.
