Principally known for its vineyards, Pissotte is one of the oldest villages in the area. Le Roc de St-Luc would have been the site of the first settlement.
In and around the village, very beautiful buildings, houses and manors are witness to the prosperity of this little commune. The river Vendée which flows below the village, very quickly saw the installation of water mills: les Moulins de Crochet and Gachet (privately owned) are still a visible part of this enchanting setting. Further away, the Tabarotte fountain is one of the curiosities of the area. This spring has been used throughout the ages and a wash house was installed there in the 18th Century.
