Dominating the plain of Fontenay-Le-Comte, this village, set around its huge church with imposing buttresses, is the nearest gateway to the bocage (semi-wooded countryside).
The door of the church, sculpted with a hunting scene representing dogs pursuing a wild boar, reminds us that this little village is found on the edge of the forest. A priory during the 11th Century, the church boasts a remarkable reredos.
Some beautiful private chateaux were built here: the Château du Bourg, where one can still admire the porch and postern surmounted by a fine pediment, was the home of lords of St-Michel-Le- Cloucq. The Château de la Beaugisière, built in the middle ages was rebuilt in 1741; currently being restored, its gardens can be visited.
